100% Renewable Electricity Commitment by 2030
Coles has not yet made a public commitment to 100% renewable electricity.
Power Purchase Agreement
In 2019 Coles signed a long-term 10 year contract to secure renewable electricity from three new solar farms in Wagga Wagga, Corowa and Junee, NSW. This PPA covers 10% of its total electricity demand. In 2020 Coles signed a deal with CleanCo to purchase electricity from the Western Downs Green Power Hub solar farm and the MacIntyre Wind Farm in Queensland. This will power 90% of the company’s Queensland operations and is equivalent to 20% of its national demand.
Coles has installed on-site solar systems at 69 supermarkets across Australia. It plans to continue these installations and solar is now on the design blueprint for new stores.
